Crafts and Design program - Sheridan College
The Bachelor of Craft and Design program offers intensive, hands-on education in five disciplines: ceramics, textiles, furniture, industrial design and glass.
The textile studio program gives students hands-on training in a wide variety of dye and print processes, as well as felt making, papermaking, hand and machine stitching, concept and design development, surface design and digital design and printing.
Digital Textile Design 1
Students will apply their knowledge acquired in Dye & Print and Surface Design courses to create repeat designs in Photoshop. Basic tools, filters and patterning methods will be taught, and original artwork, as well as found material will be scanned and manipulated in order to create digital designs. Sudents will make screen separations and silk-screen positives for printing yardage. Students will learn collage techniques in order to create designs for digital printing.
Digital Textile Design 2
Advanced Photoshop and Illustrator techniques will be learned for application in textile design, production and display. Illustrator will be used to create a design for laser-cutting. Surface designs will be printed on fabric to be used for a creative and/or production project. A fashion storyboard will be produced using the students own designs and colourways.
